Praying for my Nation – the Election

“Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence.  For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior,  who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.”  (1 Timothy 2:1-4; NKJ)

Paul said to pray for all in authority.  I doubt he foresaw a day or nation such as ours where we have the power and privilege to choose our leaders!  But that means it is all the more important that we pray as we approach this important election day.

Give thanks to God for the freedom and privilege that we have to participate in the selection of those who will lead us.

Pray for all of the candidates.  Pray first and foremost that they would come to know Christ by faith.  Pray for those who are men and women of faith that they would conduct their lives according to your Word.  Pray that candidates would conduct themselves with honesty and integrity.  Pray that the election would be based on the serious issues we face more than personality and popularity.

Pray that Christian people and people of wisdom and integrity would get fully informed from wholesome and informative sources about the issues of the election and where candidates from both parties stand.

Pray that the media would begin to value truth and be committed to the non-biased reporting of facts.

Pray for the Lord to give favor to candidates that will protect the religious and constitutional freedoms of our nation.

Pray that there would be a great turnout of people who are informed and wise in their decisions.
